Ephesians 1:11

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will

There is great joy and freedom when you realize that you didn’t choose God, but He first chose you! This great love is what every person faces when they come into the kingdom of heaven. God’s activity didn’t just happen at salvation, but this continues throughout our lives – God is working things out in ways that we don’t see. So take heart; God is actively involved in your life, both in ways that you can see and ways that are invisible to your view. Rejoice in that truth. Trust in His unending love.

Genesis 2:7

Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Man is unique in all of God’s creation for he holds the breath of God in his being. We are created with such wonder that our inclination is to worship a spouse, a child, a leader, or another human that inspires us. Yet our misguided attention to others is rooted in the recognition of something divine. We are filled with God’s breath. Every human being is a reminder of the Image of God, and our awe needs to go beyond the created order to the Creator.

1 Timothy 6:17

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Proverbs 5:21

For your ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all your paths.

John 1:3

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Mark 13:8

Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

Zechariah 1:4-5

Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.’ But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the LORD. Where are your ancestors now? And the prophets, do they live forever?

John 14:23

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

John 4:24

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” – John 4:24 (NIV)

As Jesus is speaking to a woman about the topic of worship, He reveals something profound to her – worship is not about a location or a style, worship is something that is both mysterious (spirit) and rational (truth). Some people emphasize one over the other, but Jesus tells us that God wants both. God is looking for hearts that are gripped with what we know in Scripture and what we long for in mystery.
