Pastors Ponderings
Have you noticed that even before Halloween it was beginning to look a lot like christmas? Everywhere you went you saw decorations and gift ideas. Now the big stores can’t wait until thanksgiving is over, in order to start Black Friday.
Every year we want to push the Christmas sales earlier and earlier. Have we gotten so commercial that we have forgotten why it is we celebrate Christmas? I think we have. Thanksgiving to Christmas is a time to reflect on what Christ has done for us. We give thanks for all the blessings He has bestowed on us, and we REALLY, REALLY need to give thanks for His birth.
Are you caught up in the whoop-to-do of Christmas? Are you even considering the Christ of Christmas? May I suggest that this year we begin to think about Christ and not so much about all of the craziness of Christmas. Yes, give presents to those you want, but more importantly think about giving a present to Jesus: Yourself. What better present could anyone give?
Do something for someone else who is less fortunate than you. Instead of spending time on thinking and giving gifts to those who will give you gifts, give gifts to someone who cannot give you a gift.
May you have a very merry Christmas this year. May God bless you richly as you in turn bless others with your lives.
